Once upon a time, the Driftway development was simply a large open field. Locally it was referred to as the horses' field as there were often a number of horses in the field. Here are just three photos of the field's previous residents, there are more photos on Flickr.

And here are three fabulous photos of the snow covered field, albeit horseless, on a dull January morning in 2010.

However, plans were submitted and approved for the development of the Driftway estate. Originally the developers intended to put allotments where the community garden is. However, there were issues with that proposal and so the allotment idea was discarded. The developers then hopefully suggested that they simply replaced the allotments with another couple of houses. Unsurprisingly the Parish Council and a number of residents objected to that idea. A suggestion was made that a community garden could be created instead. In September 2019 a group of residents got together to discuss plans for the garden, and a committee was formed to develop the idea and subsequently turn the idea into reality. Meanwhile, discussions took place between the developer and Chinnor Parish Council (CPC), and in 2020 the area was leased to CPC for an initial 10 year period for the community garden. And so the journey began.

A BUILDING SITE

What started as a field ...

Still a field Still a field

... began its transformation ...

Not a field And now a building site And now a building site

... into a building site.

Those last three were taken in April 2020. As you can see the site was still a builder's yard but, thanks to the pandemic, was almost hidden behind closed gates. These photos were taken through the gap where the padlock was.
